What medical detox is
A safe, supervised start to recovery
Detox is the first step of treatment: clearing substances from your body under medical supervision so withdrawal is managed safely. For some substances, that supervision is not optional. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal in particular can be dangerous without it.
At Natural State Recovery Centers, detox happens in a warm, residential setting in the Little Rock area, staffed around the clock by licensed nurses and by people who remember their own first days here. Many of our staff are in recovery themselves. You rest, your head clears, and when detox is done you move straight into residential treatment with the same team.
What to expect
Your first days, step by step
Detox can feel like the most frightening part of getting help. Knowing what happens next takes some of that fear away.
Call, in whatever shape you’re in
A real person answers, any hour, free and confidential. Tell us what’s going on and we’ll handle the rest. If you can’t get here, we can help arrange a ride.
Settle in
Bring 7–10 days of clothes, your prescriptions, and a list of anyone you may need to call. If you arrive with little, we keep clothing and hygiene donations on hand.
Stabilize safely
A medication protocol specific to you eases withdrawal while licensed nurses monitor you around the clock. Your job, mostly, is to rest and eat well.
Step straight into treatment
When detox is complete, you move seamlessly into residential programming. No gap, no second admission, and the same care team beside you.

Detox in a space designed to feel like a home, not a hospital.

Questions & answers
Common questions about detox
Is medical detox safe?
Yes. For some substances, medical supervision is essential. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can be dangerous without it. Our medical team monitors you around the clock and uses evidence-based protocols to keep you safe and as comfortable as possible.
How long does detox take?
It varies by substance, how long you have used, and your overall health, but detox is typically several days. Your care team will give you a clearer picture after your assessment, and you move into ongoing treatment as soon as you are stable.
Does insurance cover detox?
Most insurance plans cover medically supervised detox. Our admissions team can verify your benefits quickly and confidentially before you commit to anything. And don’t let insurance be a deterrent to calling: if we’re not in your network, we’ll help point you in the right direction.
What happens after detox?
Detox clears the substance from your body, but it is not the whole of recovery. At NSRC you transition directly into residential or outpatient treatment with the same team, with no gap and no new admission.
Can I just detox at home instead?
We do not recommend it. At-home detox can be unsafe, and relapse is common when withdrawal symptoms peak. Supervised detox keeps you safe and sets up the treatment that helps recovery last.
